New Anitdepressants coming to Australia

Posted by alienatari on January 2, 2005, at 2:26:09

Hey all. Ive been on Parnate for a month and Its been great, I really love it. But im terrfied of the drug interactions and the food restrictions.

Does anyone know of any new drugs or drug trials coming to Australia? with the drug trials, are there any going at the moment in Sydney?

Id be particularily interested in drugs that act upon the dopamine system as I think thats why Parnate is working for me.

Take care all.

Is the Parnate not doing enough in the dopamine deparment? That's one of the reasons why I'm considering Parnate because pro-dopaminergic drugs tend to greatly decrease my symptoms.

Were you thinking of augmenting the Parnate with a pro-dopamine drug or replacing it?

Actually, Parnate has been great. And I think it is because of how it effects dopamine as you were saying. All the seratonin and norepinephrine only antidepressants did nothing for me and i have tried 16 other antidepressants not counting Parnate. However, about 2 hours after my second dose (so around about 4pm) i feel horrible! and this horrible feeling lasts for about 8 hours. All i want to do is lay down (i cant sleep though), I feel dizzy, and generally sick.

So im thinking about asking my doc if he will try Selegline on me and if that doesnt work then trying Lamictil. If those both dont work I guess I will go back on the Parnate.

Dont get me wrong and dont let me put you off Parnate. I think the majority of people who take it find it stimulating. Its a great drug, and If i have to stay on it I will but Id like to try something else that may not make me so sick.

Take care
:)

Cymbalta is the only thing coming to Australia, I don't know how long it's going to take however. How much Parnate are you taking? Perhaps you could split the afternoon doseage.

KK.

Oh really? thats a real downer. Im only taking half my parnate dose (and I was only on 20mgs to begin with) and I still have the same side effects so I really want to ditch parnate. Hopefully i can try Selgene or Lamictil, but both are not on the PBS for depression (I hear Lamictil will be soon for bipolar depression, I hope so as I have bipolar). Im not sure what my psychatrist will recommend. But i really dont want to stay on Parnate if i can help it.

Take care and thanks for the info :)

If Parnate has been the best AD you might want to try adding another drug for nausea. Does it give you any other problems you can't deal with? Selegiline would very likely have the same problems as it is a very similar to Parnate.

I guess its just nausea and sedation that are really bothering me. I was hoping that If i could take selegiline that I wouldnt be as sedated. Its odd though, i thought Parnate was suppose to be a stimulating med? Thanks again for the reply, ill ask my doc if i can take something for the nausea.

Some people respond to dopaminergics by becoming sedated. I am one of them. I tried low-dose selegiline and it put me to sleep. Other dopaminergics I've tried also sedated me and after taking them a short while I started to feel generally quite sick.

I was thinking of trying Parnate next. I was expecting that I'd probably have to start off VERY low and stay at that dosage a while and hope that eventually my system downregulated and then I'd move up another small amount and wait again...

Hope parnate works out for you. Thanks for the info, I guess thats what is happening to me too. Its weird though, It doesnt usually sedate me until i take my second dose. Then i must rest, i hate that feeling. It sure beats depression though.
