I've been doing well and wanted to drop from 60mg to 40mg. I tried this one day, but ended up craving the drug very badly. Lowering the dose did not seem to make me depressed, I just felt like some kind of addict with the way I felt after lowering the dose. is this experience normal when lowering the dose on this drug? how long does it last?

I came off Geodon in April of 2004 and still am having some intense w/d. I also came off a benzo. Remember you are coming off a major tranx and w/d can be hard. My symptoms wax and wane and hopefully will be gone in the future. Take your taper slow. Good Luck.
Why are you coming off?

I just took myself off 60mgs of Geodon last night.
I didn't get much sleep.
But I'm just tired of the akathisia.
I was standing in line at the grocery store on New Year's Eve and I just could not stand still, so I've had enough.
I've been on the Geodon for 9 months so I've given it a good amount of time. I've even been on less and more it makes no difference.
I hope I can stay off this stuff. I will have to tell my pdoc about this on the 13th when I see him next, don't know what he's going to think, but he's out of town until next week anyway and I just don't want to keep going through this.
And yes I have tried other APs.
Seroquel makes me way to tired, Abilify gave me akathisia also and I don't want the other ones, I don't want to gain any weight, I have an ED and this is just not an option.
This will be the second time for me stopping the Geodon.
I came off geodon the first time in 2001 and had no problems at all.
Just stopped all at once just like I'm doing this time but I was under doctor's instructions then to stop (akathisia was the problem then too).
However I was taking Ambien for sleep at that time which I'm not on now.
Well I just have to see how the next few days go but I'm expecting no real problems.

wow it takes that long?
I just don't like being medicated. I've been doing pretty well with the medication, but I also did some good trauma work in my therapy and feel that I'm much healthier overall, so I'd like to see if I can at least lower the dose. I'm 23 also, and a big reason is that I'd like my sex drive to be back to normal. I'm a little worried that the medication is the main reason that I've been doing a lot better, but I at least want to give it a shot.
This is the end of the thread.
