Hi,
Has anyone ever taken Cozaar for high blood pressure and found that it reduced their anxiety. Apparantly, it works as an anti-anxiety drug in rats!

Hi Ed,
My husband has taken Cozaar for years and it sure hasn't lessened his anxiety! I believe it's some kind of a diuretic, right? That sure would be nice if it worked, though!

Hi Sooshi.:-)
How are you?
Cozaar (losartan) is what is known as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. It blocks the receptors along blood vessels that normally cause them to constrict and raise blood pressure. It can be used in addition to a diuretic.

Hi Scott,
Thanks! I was hoping someone would come to my rescue and am so glad it was you! I just knew it had something to do with a "diuretic". It doesn't seem to be working all that well either....my husband has to increase his dosage again and it never really has kept it all that under control. But that's neither here nor there...Anyway.....I recently tried increasing my Zonegran to 300mg, and got some REALLY scary side effects, if you'd be interested in hearing about it??

Definitely. I can't imagine what they could be. The more information that is available for Babblers, the better. I have always appreciated your input.

I took a related drug, Avapro (irbesartan). I found it was very anxiolytic for a couple of days, but after that it seemed to make me jittery. I haven't tried it recently since my BP is now low (diet and exercise) but the initial effect was impressive. The angiotensin II receptor blockers are intriguing medications.

Well, due to some situational stress and depression, my doc wanted to increase the Z to 300mg at night. During the night of day three, I woke up with a jolt, sat up, and couldn't see straight. Everything in the room looked like it was "melting" - I feel like I was hallucinating. I had to just lie back down and close my eyes and wait it out. For the next week I kept having these strange sensations, waking or sleeping, although not as bad, and I was very very irritable and hot tempered. Increasing the Zonegran definately did NOT help me with my stress level! I decreased it back down to 200, and now I feel fine.
This is the end of the thread.
