Zopiclone versus Zolpidem (Ambien)

Posted by ed_uk on December 17, 2004, at 8:47:24

Vote.... if you have tried both, which did you prefer and why?

Possible differences...

Zolpidem is claimed to have a shorter clinical duration of action that zopiclone.... less hangover?? But zolpidem might be less effective than zopiclone at preventing early morning awakening or waking up during the night.

Zolpidem is more selective than zopiclone for omega-1 receptors ......allegedly zolpidem may have a reduced risk of dependence.......zolpidem might be expected to have less effect on sleep architecture than zopiclone.......on the other hand, the reduced selectivity of zopiclone may make it more anxiolytic- may be helpful in insomnia associated with anxiety.

I tried both.
I do not like both of them but if I had to choose I'd take Zolpidem :
- Zolpidem knocked me dead asleep;Zopiclone had some "hang-over" plus an awful metalic taste in the morning ; felt like being transformed into a terminator!!

- Anyway, I prefer the "anxiyolitic" benzos than the "hypnotic" benzos for sleep....do you know if there is a difference b/t those twe categories??

Regards,
Adam.

P.S. I label Zalepon,Zopiclone, and Zolpidem as benzos bec I believe their effects are the same and trying to make them non-benzos is a marketing hype!!
