Is it simply that it is so new? The little I've heard about it is very postitive. Little incidence of side effects--mainly initial nausea; no "stupidmax"-like effects for most, and weight loss.
It sounds interesting. Some people have preferred it over Lamictal. ON the remedyfind.com list for bipolar, it actually has a higher ranking than Lamictal (though it doesnt show up on the first page yet because it has only 25 ratings...)

Hi,
I think you need to speak to someone from Japan... zonisamide has been available in Japan and South Korea since 1989!!

banga ~
I've been on Zonegran for a year. I was on Topamax but my hair would not stop falling out so I went on the Zonegran.
I take it as a mood stabilizer for my bipolar (200mg a day). I have not had any side effects from this med. I don't have any loss of appetite, maybe you only get that at a higher dose? I do feel a little tired all the time, but that could be my other meds or it could be the Zonegran, who knows?
I really like this med and I will keep taking it as long as it keeps working.
HTH... :-)

Thanks for the responses. I am currently on Lamictal and Zonegran is my backup (or a combo?) I dont have to lose weight, but I forsee adding a med to my regimen that causes weight gain so I thought maybe it would offset that....but no reason to switch yet.
It is odd that there is not much info out there....it is not that new a drug on a global level.

Hi banga,
Zonegran has been great for me...no side effects, very good anti-depressant qualities, no cognitive problems. I, too have had a hard time finding info about it. I just know that it works. Am always searching for more info, though. Good luck,
Sooshi
