I am taking 150mg of Effexor XR once a day. If I am late on a dose or skip a dose I have terrible nightmares and have a hard time waking up in the morning. My head throbs and feels like it weighs 100lbs! This used to happen if I missed more than one day but now I am starting to notice it more often. Is this normal???

You might want to read some of the earlier threads about Effexor if you have not already.

Its not unusual. I've been off efexor for about a week and the dreams are dying down now. When I ramped down (and up in fact) my dose, I always seemed to get a lot of REM rebound... not always nightmares but not entirely nice dreams.
I don't know about the head throbbing thing, I didn't experience that.

I actually had the best dreams ever on Effexor XR. I'm sure you will see some threads on Effexor XR and dreams.

Yep, if I'm 4 hours or more late with my Effexor XR dose, I can expect a night filled with nightmares, and therefore waking frequently.

When I first started Effexor over a year ago, I had absolutely draining Techinicolor dreams. Not exactly nightmares, but VERY unpleasant. I dream more than I can ever remember dreaming in my life. Given the choice, I often have thought that I would prefer NOT to dream, even though I know it's necessary...

I had the same experience (vivid dreams) except mine were very positive! This feature is the only thing I miss from Effexor XR aka "Special Effectsor."
This is the end of the thread.
