Depressed And Need Some Reassurance

Posted by faith9 on December 14, 2004, at 15:20:25

Hi All, I'm new around these parts. I am depressed and seem to be getting more depressed. The holiays don't help any. Anyway my doctor last Friday upped my dosage of Lex from 10 to 20mg. I also am on 200 mg of Lamictal. I had relief at 100mg of Lamictal and after 3 months the wonderful relief I had went away. He upped me to 200 nothing. Then he added 10mg of Lex then upped me to 20 as I just stated. I take it all at night because it causes drowsiness in me. I also take Trazadone to sleep. I guess what I want is some hope that it will work. I am sooooo depressed. Is it possible all of this can cause more depression.

Sorry about your troubles. Try to perk up a bit, though; this is probably a temporary situation. While you're feeling blue, try to get out a little more than usual, spend times with friends and/or family more, and put more time than usual into an activity that keeps your mind occupied with something other than your depression. That always helps me. Now, on the medical side, give the lex a chance, but if you're getting WORSE, tell your doc and ask if s/he could do a med change to help you out. I'm not a doctor or anything, but I think you might benefit from something like Remeron, which hits multiple receptors AND can be used as a sedative. Tricyclic augmentation might help, or another add on...wellbutrin, an antipsychotic, etc. Good luck!

Hi,
I am really sorry to hear of your depression, many people are feeling the way you are, as you can see by reading these posts! Can you join a gym? That helps me, gets me aroudn people and keeps me busy, plus the endorphins make the depression symptoms decrease. Sometimes it takes several different combinations of medications to work, talk to your doc, and tell him or her how you feel.....you will find the right med, just hand in there. I take Welbutrin, and that seems to work well for many people....it makes me anxious and I don't need that because I'm high strung as it is, but it's a pick-me-up for sure. Weight neutral also. good luck-L
