I am only on week 4 of Lamictal, have been on 50 mg for two weeks....it truly seems to already make a difference for me. Id say I began feeling it once I started 50 mg. I feel calmer (I have anxiety), and more stable--less negative shifts into depressive thoughts). I also seem to be getting rid of the emotional blunting I have had from SSRIs.
I did not expect a response so quickly, at such a low dose. It purportedly takes at least 4 weeks for effect, just as with antidepressants, but apparently not in my case. Part of it may be simply my body's relief from the SSRIs. But I would say that it is definitely making a difference already. This is the first mood stabilizer I have tried. My greatest fear is feeling a change for the better, then having it poop out on me--like it has for some others.I almost feel that at this point, mood issues are less salient than cognitive issues. If you would have seen and spoken to me 3 weeks ago, I am sure there would be a great difference. But I still walk in a haze, like I have all my life. I will be evaluated for inattentive ADD in a few months.
I will be going up to 75 mg tomorrow.
