Methaqualone (Quaalude)

Posted by ed_uk on December 12, 2004, at 20:24:48

Does anyone know why the (discontinued) sedative methaqualone produces more euphoria than other sedatives/hypnotics/anxiolytics eg. barbiturates and benzodiazepines.

Ed.

PS. I have never taken Quaalude and I never will. I was just wondering whether it might have had a dopaminergic effect.

I can't tell you anything about what it does, but I can tell you that it certainly produces euphoria... Ah, the misty days of my well mis-spent youth...

Misty, no doubt, in large part because of methaqualone...

From what people have said, the subjective effects of methaqualone sound a bit like alcohol ie. euphoria, numbness, sedation, increased libido.

What were the subjective effects of methaqualone for you?

Regards,
Ed.

Methaqualone was synthesized in India by Dr.Gujral in pursuit of a substitution for barbiturates. But it ended up as a more toxic substance than barbiturates.
It causes localized loss of sensation. The euphoriant effect is very similar to alcohol, and the combination often proves deadly.
Alleged aphrodisiac effects made it a popular street drug, but it is actually an anaphrodisiac. similar to alcohol, it produces loss of inhibition thusly heightens libido at low doses. But high doses diminishes libido to the point to make male users impotent.
Never try the stuff. It is very addictive, and lethal if combined with similar sedatives.

Hi,

I'm not going to try it. I was interested in it because it seems to have different subjective effects to most sedatives.

Thank you for you response.

Regards,
Ed.

Dang, you're gonna make me think? It's been at least fifteen years, probably more, so this is very, very vague to me, but here goes...

It was different from any other sedative/tranquillizer I can think of, much more "high" than simply calm, but very warm and safe feeling. I do remember that I used to do quaaludes with a girlfriend, we'd sit on the sofa in her parents' house, talk most of the night, be quiet together, just sort of -- bond. No anxiety, everything was good... But that was a very, very long time ago.

I thought, though, that quaaludes had not been manufactured for years? Is that wrong?

Hi,

I think that methaqualone is still used medically in a few countries. It is also manufactured illegally. I believe it is very popular in South Africa (recreationally).

Yep sure is. It's called Mandrax-Mannies and can be bought OTC. It is often smoked and pratically knocks people to the ground when done this way

Cheers
