Loss of fine motor skills, memory, other problems

Posted by sdjeff on December 7, 2004, at 21:49:09

I'm on cymbalta 60 mg and Zyprexa 15 mg.

I've been on Zyprexa for about 6 months and Cymbalta for 2 months. I have tried a long list of ADs, APs and mood stabilizers. I cannot tolerate SSRI's and many other drugs. So far, these are the only meds I have a tolerance for. It took four month just to build a tolerance for Zyprexa. The Cymbalta was a lot easier.

I've noticed a slight elevation in mood, but overall I'm still pretty depressed.

I am having some problems. I have no libido. Not a big priority, unfortunately. I feel emotionally flat. This is a dangerous state for me and I've already been hospitalized for suicidal ideation. I sleep 10-12 hours a day. I get overwhelmed by very simple things. My memory is very spotty. I can remember having done things most of the time but I can't remember when. Another issue I have is loss of motor skills and muscle weakness. For instance, my handwriting has never been very good but now it's even worse.

Any ideas, suggestions, similar experiences are appreciated.

Hi:
>>> I feel emotionally flat. This is a dangerous state for me and I've already been hospitalized for suicidal ideation. I sleep 10-12 hours a day. I get overwhelmed by very simple things.<<<

--- The symptoms above are due to the depression you have. Even though you've been on a newest form of AD, Cymbalta seems NOT able to alleviate the symptoms. It's VERY hard,... but mixed with a small amount of other from of A.D. or a fish-oil/Omega-3 might give a trick. However, in the case like yours, I can NOT be sure to say. Just my suggestion from what I read/heard from others.

>>> My memory is very spotty. I can remember having done things most of the time but I can't remember when. <<<<

--- This sounds to me like 'Zombi' caused by the Zyprexa with the high dosage, 15mg. ---

>>> Another issue I have is loss of motor skills and muscle weakness. For instance, my handwriting has never been very good but now it's even worse. <<<

--- This is also a side-effect from the 15 mg. Zyprexa. You need to speak to your pdoc. for 'Cogentin' or any other meds. ---

Hi:
I just forgot to mention other aspects regarding the zyprexa on which I've been taking for my 'ultra rapid cycler,' and other unpleasant 'hypomanic' sides. In my case, just 5 mg. is enough. Once, I took the 10 mg. and experiencined 'depression' along with other annyoing problems. Then, in my suggestion through the experience, try to cut down the dosage, from 15 mg. to 10 mg. to see how your body/brain chemicals reacts.

In my recollection, you're so to speak, ... one of med.-resistance or treatment difficulties due to med. sensitivity. I'm too not tolerable to any of SSRIs, then my A.D.s are Trazodone and WB sr. On Trazodone, I've been taking 150 mg. before the bed. Once, I took 200 mg. and my depression came back the next morning. I told this to my pdoc. and he said 'too' much sedation causing 'depression.' However, I can't be sure the case like yours, but try to reduce the dosage of the Zyprexa, that won't be any problem for you. Besides this, your other S.E.,(EPS, TD or some other terms, ... I just can not specifify an EXACT term for this) might go away as you starting 'less' dosage.

Thanks for your input, Happygirl. I wish I could reduce the Zyprexa, but at 10 mg I'm agitated and anything less and my psychotic symptoms return. I'll look into your other suggestions.

Regards,

Jeff
