Hi,
I am suffering from an incurable illness called RESPIRATORY DYSKINESIA. I was diagnosed with this hyperventilating condition after taking prescribed HALOPERIDOL (A NEUROLEPTIC DRUG).
I would like to hear from anyone else with this condition or doctors involved with this problem.
Many thanks,
Terentio

Have you wondered , why is Haldol still on the market ?
Sometimes the conventional antypshicotics are better to treat the positive simptopms in people who suffer squizophrenia.I would never use them but doctors still like them.
what is your diagnostic Terentio?
Be strong !

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. It proved impossible to sue. The doctor was 'excused' on the basis that another doctor in the profession may have done the same thing.
I am not a schitzophrenic (spelling?). The haloperidol was prescribed to control tics in Tourette Syndrome.
I think it should be taken off the market!
Best wishes,
Terentio

Hello,
I am sorry to hear that you're suffering from a drug induced dyskinesia. The respiratory dyskinesia may gradually improve over time. Dyskinesias are not always permanent.
All the best...
Ed

Hi Ed,
Thanks for your post. The hyperventilation has eased a little but I am told the RD will never go away! I had a brain op. which may have affected the symptoms a little.
Best wishes,
Terentio

Just curious, are you on another med now to control your tics? I have TS also, and take Clonodine, which is supposed to have the least side effects, but it is also the least effective. Have you tried any other meds for tics?

I now take Omega 3 fatty acids for the tics (see your doctor/ pharmacist) and also eat sardines and other oily fish. These do wonders for my tics but have no effect on the Respiratory Dyskinesia. Clonidine did very little for my tics. Clonazepam has helped a little in the past but makes me very tired. Have tried many other meds for tics but too many side effects

>Terentio, you need to see a movement disorders specialist at a University Neurology department. Psychiatrists wont help your problem, in fact they may make it worse. Youre problem is a medical problem, not a psychiatric one. You should seek help outside of psychiatry, as in a Neurologist who specializes in movement disorders.
Psychiatrists frequently cause movement disorders with their drugs, but they do nothing to then treat the new problems they create.

Hi Shalom,
Thanks for your message. I have been clearly diagnosed now with Tourettes by a world leading Tourette specialist.
However, although that is being dealt with there appears to be nothing that can be done about the Respiratory Dyskinesia which seems to have been caused by the original drug, haloperidol.
Best wishes,
Terentio
