I've been on Effexor for about 2 years in addition to other meds for the treatment of Bipolar and OCD. Currently I am on Effexor, Lamictal, Seroquel, and Yasmin (birth control).
So...I wasn't very sexually active until recently. I haven't ever had an orgasm, which is wierd, because I can be intensely aroused (i.e. pillow-clenching, screaming aroused) for at least 30 minutes with constant stimulation (from my boyfriend) yet never reach orgasm. I am pretty sure that the if the majority of females were stimulated the way I have been, they would be off the wall with orgasms. (This is beginning to sound wierd, but I'm trying to keep it "appropriate.") My boyfriend is kind of frustrated that he can't give me an orgasm, but very understanding. I mean, he isn't feeling all inadequate or anything. Anyway, I (we)am wondering if this could have something to do with Effexor and if anyone has any experience or input they could share with me.
I have been looking at messages regarding Effexor's side effects with labido, but havent really found anything on labido from a female perspective. I'm not sure Effexor is the cause of this, but some of these messages are beginning to sound familiar.

From my experience, all antidepressants except Wellbutrin make orgasm more difficult to achieve. Wellbutrin helps with sexual response. You can skip a day or two on the Effexor, but not more than that without severe withdrawal. You might try going a day without it and see if there's any difference.

Yes, it can cause you to be unable to reach orgasm (or kind of skip right over it in a very disturbing and frustrating manner). Even with more than sufficient stimulation. Unfortunate side-effect...

Giving you the benefit of the male viewpoint,
My wife took many meds including effexor for years, our sex life was nil, it got to the point in our relationship than rather being rejected for sex or hearing that she had or some other malady that affected her libido whenever I felt frisky I would just sleep in the other bedroom.
Talk with your doctor and see if there is somenting you might take that would supercharge your libido, give your sweetie a chance.

Yep I had the same problem. The longer I was on the Effexor, the less problems I had. Maybe you need more time to adjust to the medication.

Yeah, I started taking my Effexor regularly round the same time I had a depo. injection (birth control) and I certaintly noticed a difference, though I don't know if it was one or the other or both.
I didn't really feel aroused, and when I did get interested found I would get that frustrated 'its gone away' kind of thing...
Let me know if you figure out a way to get around this...

How long were you on it (or are you still?) I have been taking it a few months, and the sexual stuff is getting better, but its still not great. Just wondering if it will keep improving over more time?

I was on it for 9 months but am no longer taking Effexor. The sexual problems quickly went away once the Effexor was out of my system.

Hmm, mine has come back with a vengeance and my husband would be smiling except that I can't let him near me because of the fat rolls Effexor gave me. Twisted!!

Ya it's hard to feel sexy and desireable when you look like a beached whale. The worse part is that I am going into 3 months without Effexor and I can't get this extra weight off no matter how much dieting and exercising I do.
