I have been taking a very low dose of Abilify (2.5 to 3.75 mg daily) and have developed a slight tremor in my right hand. It is particularly noticeable when eating (raising the fork/spoon to my mouth). It is not only embarrassing but I am concerned about the safety of this medication.
Any advice you can give is appreciated.

Lazarus, I would suggest you ask your doctor if you are concerned about Abilify's safety. I wouldn't think that such a low dose would be unsafe. Are you on any other meds? Sometimes a small dose of Propanolol or other beta blocker helps with tremor.

I agree. I developed a slight tremor when starting Wellbutrin. I took propranolol (Inderal) and that took care of it. Eventually I got used to the med and the tremors went away.
Best of luck

I can only speak for my son who has schizophrenia. He took a light dosage of Abilify almost 2 years ago. After about 2 weeks he developed terrible tremors along with other side effects. He got switched to Zyprexa and has no tremors. At one time he took something called Artane (anti-parkinsonian) to control tremors. This also might work for you.

> Lazarusyeah i had the same problem, but it only really showed up when i was under major stress. benzos usually took care of that.
now that i'm off mood stabilizers/anti-psychotics i think most of my problems with tremors are gone. but who knows! i mean my hands would shake in anxious situations before i ever took meds so it's really hard to say
best of luck bro

Thank you everyone for your advice.
I saw my pdoc yesterday and told him about the tremors. He told me that he doesn't think it's due to the Abilify, but I disagree with him because when I stop the Abilify the tremor goes away. Anyway, he told me to take DL-Phenylanine (DLPA) with the Abilify and said that that might stop the hand tremor.
On a side note he told me that Abilify is very tight binding, similar to Risperdal. It's half-life is three days. That's why it's a much more powerful neuroleptic than Zyprexa or Seroquel, he explained.
