Hey guys,
It's been a long time since I have posted here. I went to my doctor yesterday to get blood work done. I am always tired, lethargic, weak, feel like dying everyday, can't sleep well, foggy mind, dizzy, blurry vision, JUST FEEL LIKE DYING. My doc said it sounds like a thyroid problem? Can anyone relate to this? I thought I have been dealing with anxiety and panic attacks it doesnt feel like anxiety. Im the opposite, im weak and tired and the mind is so foggy i can just die. This is every other day almost. Can it be a thyroid problem? I have to wait 7 days for my results :( I'm so anxious, I want to know now.

Hello--are you on any meds right now? Because as you know, i'm sure, many side effects can include drowsiness/fatigue, etc. but I'm sure you've thought of that already if you are on any.
Anyway, after a bout with mono last year it took me about a year to recover...actually, I'm not totally sure I'm fully "recovered". I had thyroid tests done, MS & lupus ruled out, a lot of blood work analyzed, etc. All appeared normal. I was (finally) diagnosed with fibromyalgia & chronic fatigue syndrome, which apparently can stem from having mono? although you can get it without having had mono, too.
If you do have it, it will not show up in a blood test. You'll want to find a good doctor who is very supportive and familiar & sympathetic in treating chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). I really hope you feel better soon.
I don't know if you have panic disorder, but please try to keep calm at least until you have the results of the test(s) that were done.
At least you can take comfort in knowing you are taking steps to better your health.
Best of luck,
L.

I've been on medication for hypothyroidism for 4 years and a very I will probably be on it all my life. It's cheap and there are no side effects. I gained energy, was less sensitive to cold, felt healthier. I don't want to get your hopes up, because your thyroid may be fine, and because it doesn't solve anything, but it does give you a bit more to work with in life. I really think it is a highly underestimated factor in moods and energy.
One thing though, if you are hypo and require medication (levothyroxine), it may not help your anxiety outright. It may help your mood and energy which in turn may allow you to acheive more and have fewer things to be anxious about.
Hope this helps,
tt

Thanks alot guys!! Well I got the test results, and my blood work, including thyroid and it all came out perfect. So I guess it is just anxiety, stress, etc. :\ Darn... I was really hoping it was something that could be treated. Damn mental disorders. I used a LOTTT of drugs within the past 10 years and probally did alot of damage. So my doctor is sending me for an MRI this Thursday. If I find anything bad out, I'll let you guys know :) Thanks...

Hi Cyn,
Just because your MD says your tests are "perfect" doesn't mean you don't have a thyroid problem developing, which could account for some of your symptoms. A good book to read is The Thyroid Solution by Ridha Arem, MD. In it he addresses the connection between hypothyroidism and anxiety and depression. It's important to get the results of your blood tests and to either post them here or compare to charts in Arem's book. Many docs consider a TSH of up to 5 "normal" when if fact, many people have horrible symtoms at that point. Another factor to consider is if the doctor ran tests for Hashimoto's thyroiditis (antibody tests). Many times a person can have symptoms w/ high antibodies yet a TSH at the lower end of normal range. Don't be afraid to call your doc and ask to have a copy of your test results mailed to you, including the lab ranges used. It's your right to request them.
Many people get misdiagnosed with a host of other problems when it's a whacky thyroid all along and many MD's are not too knowledgeable about diagnosis unless it's a clear-cut case of hyPER or hyPO.

Did your doctor also check your blood sugar levels? This is usually done through a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT). Blood sugar disorders can also cause anxiety and depression.
