Off My Meds

Posted by Snoozin on November 9, 2004, at 12:32:56

My doctor switched practices and I never signed the proper papers to transfer my records to her. So I never made an appointment to go see her to get a refill of Wellbutrin. Now, I'm off, and feeling worse each day.

I guess this isn't really a med question, other than how long do I have before I plunge back into depression, and why can't I motivate myself to fix this and get my Rx?

Susan

Hi there, sorry for ya situation.Maybe you should not look for motivation per say, just instead enough strentgh to get to a doc for your script.

Im not saying this to lecture you on being on a med,but however even if you were to decide to go off for good its usualy proven tapering off is best.It can probuably be safe to say this in your case as well for what would seem to be a fairly simple task for "normal" people seems like a very difficult one for you,i know,i have been there many times where a simple drive to my pharmacy after a few days of not having my med seemed dreadfull,i literaly slugged my way there,BUT i was sure glad i did when the medication took to me.

Do you have or use any benzo?Maybe a low dose of benzo can help give you just enough of a nudge to get a script, then at least you have the option of tapering off if you do decide you want off of the med,i commented here cause i know exactly what youre feeling, common tasks beging to feel overwhemling, this just seems to spiral and spiral,if this seems like you,id recomend doing what you can, asking for help from someone to drive you etc,to get a hold of your medication.

Hello,
I know how hard it can be to get up the motivation/strength to deal with all the crap to get what you need to feel ABLE to deal!
First off, do you have the phone number of your pdoc's new practice? If not, I'm sure you could find it on www.whitepages.com. You could try to call the new office & explain your situation to them. It is possible your pdoc may be willing to call in some Wellbutrin to the pharmacy until you can get in to see her. If you feel this is too much for you right now, do you have an advocate (a spouse, friend, relative, etc.) to help you out, maybe make the call for you? And if it is called in, is there someone that can go pick it up for you/go with you? These things can help a lot.
I know it's rough when you feel like you have so little motivation, but the concerned tone of your questions reveals that you must have motivation to get that script--the motivation to feel better. Don't let yourself (the self that is without medication right now) or anything else stand in the way of that. If the Wellbutrin works for you and you CAN obtain it one way or another, I'd consider that a blessing to hold on to! Please don't concern yourself with any time periods of "slipping back" when you CAN move forward! Good Luck!!
Best,
L.
