My son has been taking Zyprexa for a yr and a half for his psychosis. Unfortunately during the last year he has gone from 140 lbs to 220 lbs.
His pdoc suggested during Christmas Vacation he could try to switch to Geodon. I have found some documentation on the web that indicates Geodon is a fairly safe alternative with less of weight gain problem.
Recently on this site I read some posts that users of Geodon had developed eye spasms (Twitching etc.). Can someone shed more light on the safety of taking Geodon? All input is welcome! Thanks!

Geodon can cause heart problems in a very limited number of people. I would avoid it.

hI! Sorry to hear about your son's trouble with his meds...unfortunately, weight gain is very common with zyprexa. I think Geodon is OK; I was only on it until I FINALLY got my doc to write a script for abilify. My friends who have stayed on it do have some twitching issues, but they also have intense anxiety. All in all, I think Geodon is an OK med, and I think on avg. people lose a little weight while on it. That said, I REALLY like abilify...its like taking aspirin; no bad side effects. Seroquel's good, too. Good luck on whatever you decide!

It might be similar to zyprexa, in the way it makes you tired rather than awake like abilify. I have never tried it but almost did untill I got put on abilify instead, later I lost all the weight and didn't need to switch. Its also posible to take a little zyprexa with the geodon if needed. It does have a fatal heart rithem problem that is one in a milion(so to speek), just the warning. That was why I was put on abilify instead. Even though I had never had heart problems. I would do a slow change over if you do.
