Hello. I am just wondering whether the hypotension associated with the MAOIs is serious? I mean do you feal dizziness and weakness all day round?!
Is it only postural hypotension or general one?
I am considering a MAOI for my Avoidant Personality Disorder. I have severe social anxiety. Is it true that Parnate is more useful and more energizing/stimulating, but then wont this make my social anxiety worse?!
I just don't want to go all day round feeling tired and zombie esp since I am attending college. I just don't want compromise my mental functioning. Can they interfere with my studies?!
Thanks mates,
Ted

Parnate seems to be less apt to cause hypotension, but this can be a problem with either drug, especially if your BP is on the low side to begin with. The hypotension is generally considered to be primarily orthostatic in nature (postural) and can present problems also in situations such as climbing stairs. I do not find them to be remarkably different in terms of activation, as the stimulant effects of Parnate mainly seem to counteract some of the negative MAOI side effects that are more apparent with Nardil. Both drugs are quite good for social phobia/anxiety IMO, but one may wind up working better for a particular individual depending on their exact personality and symptoms.Todd

no. and it only lasts (in my case) for a week or so (don't remember) but then it went away completely.
> Is it only postural hypotension or general one?for me i only noticed it when i was standing up too quickly, during the start of treatment
in other words, it is not something i even think about now.

Is it true that Parnate is more useful and more energizing/stimulating, but then wont this make my social anxiety worse?!yes parnate is one of the few (only?) stimulating drugs that don't make social anxiety worse. in fact, it seemed to help it quite a bit.
