Lorazepam vs Clonazepam-difference?

Posted by banga on November 1, 2004, at 15:41:08

I noticed that for antianxiety meds people are taking either xanax or clonazepam, not lorazepam...any reason why? I tried lorazepam and wasn't impressed, made me dizzy but didn't seem to do much for the anxiety.

I've addressed this theme a few times on these boards, as I've found Ativan (lorazepam) more useful than Xanax in my case.

But, Ativan/lorazepam seems to be not as well understood in how to take it, so doctors aren't likely to prescribe it correctly, nor are patients likely to figure out how to take it correctly.

It is less powerful, in some ways than the other two, and more gentle, than the other two, and I may be fortunate enough to not need anything more powerful.

My first question for you would be if you were trying the real, name brand (Wyeth), Ativan or a generic. It seems that the generics are close to worthless.

Personally, I find the generic lorazepam good, but have to take high doses- I take 3mg when required.

Which brand (and country)? In another thread, somebody familiar with a Canadian generic was look ing for an American equivalent.

And have you had the name brand Ativan, as a comparison? (If so, which country's, as even the formulation varies by country.)

Hello....
I live in West Yorkshire (England). I've never tried the brand name Ativan tablets. Ativan tablets were recently discontinued in the UK, a wide variety of generics remain available. Sadly, I don't remember which generic I used because it's a few years since I took it. Virtually all doctors in the UK prefer diazepam to any of the other benzos, my current pdoc refuses to prescribe lorazepam.
