Antitrust,
Bipolar depression, or Bipolar Disorder as it is more commonly known (used to be called manic depression) EXISTS. If you want more information you only have to type bipolar on google and you will be overwhelmed by hundreds of sites on the subject.
The general consensus where I live (in France) is that a mood regulateur (I just checked, symbyax is apparently a new one) is the basic treatment which is usually accompanied by some kind of therapy (although a pure psychoanalysis seems to have no direct positive effect) . Other treatments used to treat the illness - because that's what it is, an illness - include tranquilizers and somniferes as necessary, and also neuroleptics to calm (hypo)manic episodes. Anti depressants can be used with caution to treat depressive episodes, but must be supervised as they can lead to 'switching', a rapid turnaround to a manic episode; or a manic episode when you come off them.
In any case it looks like you can give your therapist the boot. Maybe your GP can recomend someone else?
Just a question, I've been living in France for sometime, and although English is my mother tongue, I have some trouble working out the abreviations used on this forum. What exactly is a PDOC? And ptw?
Bon courage,
Clara
