I don't think there is enough clinical experience with Cymbalta to be able to determine whether or not dosages higher than 60mg provide extra benefit. Experience with other drugs like Effexor have demonstrated increased efficacy for some people at dosages significanly higher than what the manufacturer initially recommended. My experience with 90mg has been of increased side effects without extra benefit. I am extremely treatment-resistant, however. I know of one other person taking 90mg, but I don't know what are the results. I have since dropped back down to 60mg.
My feeling is that most people will not benefit from increasing dosages of Cymbalta above 60mg, but time will tell. At this point in time, however, I would say experimentation with higher dosages makes sense if you are not responding adequately to being treated at 60mg for 4-6 weeks.
Good luck.

hi scott,
you were one of the people i had seen at 90mg.
i'll probably try 90mg as you say and keep an eye out for side effects. i don't hold a lot of hope for significant improvement. similar to your experience, after the initial titration at each level the a/d effects taper. thanks for your input.

I took 60mgs for about 8 weeks after 1 week at 30, and the results weren't great, but were satisfactory, I have been on 120mgs for 1 week now and I can tell a dramatic difference, so I think that it probably depends on the individual.

Well, I had been taking Lexapro for about a year before I started Cymbalta and it had basically ceased to work, and was sending me spiraling downward. So I started the Cymbalta and initially had very little improvement, I actually went in reverse a little because I started having crying spells which I never had on Lexapro because I was completely numb and felt nothing but rage and anger.
Anyway, after 2 months with the Cymbalta I am feeling happier, not ALL the time but at least a few days a week, I'm able to laugh and smile again. Also I don't wait until the middle of the night to do my shopping anymore because I'm not as afraid of being in a crowded place. I have regained some of my self esteem, I no longer feel incompetant at everything I do.
I still have days when I feel down, and have spells of anxiety, but I think with more time that this will too get better, but a few good days a week is better than none at all.
I have had no negative side effects, other than the initial crying spells, which I attribute to stopping the Lexapro (I didn't taper off of it, just stopped it one day and started Cymbalta the next)
This is the end of the thread.
