On most boards, people just discuss the meds they're on, without getting too technical. How did so many of you learn about all of the various receptors, antagonists, etc., and how various medications effect those receptors? Are there any books or sites you would recommend? Sounds like many of you have taken courses in neurobiology.

I've learned a lot just by hanging out here. A friend on this board recommended the book, "Synaptic Self..." though I haven't had a chance to read it yet. There's plenty I still don't understand and I will probably always be playing "catch up" here but I'd prefer to be around people who can teach me something as well as offer support.Anyway, welcome!

I've done a lot of reading at this site:The two main reference books I use are "Essential Psychopharmacology" and "Psychotropic Drugs", but I am always reading something new.

I did 4 years of independent study in biological psychology and then minored in it. I did a paper on theories behind the antidepressant effects of ECT. Plus I've done huge amounts of research and read many textbooks and other books regarding the physiological processes (sp?) of neurotransmitter systems in general and how psychotropic meds work when introduced into the who neurohormonal system.
Plus I've learned a lot over the years from people on this board among others.
This is the end of the thread.
