Hypomanic on LAMICTAL - Can this be harnessed???

Posted by bipolarspectrum on October 18, 2004, at 19:21:12

Hi,
I get hypomanic on lamictal ever time I increase the dose for 3/4 days then I crash... its strange, but every time I double the dose, hypomania returns...

Does anyone have an idea of what can be added to help smooth and mabye harness the lamictal? I cant help but think it could be a strong antidepressant for me...

I already tried 900 mg Lithium (approximately 0.3 blood level) with lamictal and experienced the same hypomania and crash...

Thanx for the read,
bps

Combination therapy possibly?

Dear bps,

You may have seen my post above, but I have had the same problem (although I am not sure if I get hypomanic or just euthymic when I raise my dose of lamictal). Seems like people with sucess on lamictal either 1) increase the dose until the "crash" doesn't occur ... some stating this up to 400mgs of lamictal 2) adding another mood stablizer ... usually lithium or depakote or neurontin (depakote is tricky due to doubling the serum level of lamictal). So maybe just keep titrating up the lamictal until you level off ... I am sure that is what a psychopharmacologist would say.

Best of luck ... hope your better soon!

Smith
