Posted by bipolarspectrum on October 10, 2004, at 22:48:43

Hi,
I'm at 1500 mg of Keppra for bipolar (type II/III) depression... Its improving my mood and energy but i feel like im constantly in a fog.. I was wondering whether any has experienced such cognition problems on keppra? and if so, did they subside over time?
thanx

Keppra is interesting, like an on/off switch. By that I mean it is pretty consitant dose per dose.

If you're experiencing brain fog, you might keep the same dose but in my experience I had to tweak the dose by 250mg increments. The 500mg pills snap in half easily.

How are you taking it, 2 or 3 times daily?

I'm pretty med sensitive and am taking just 750mg (250mg 3 times daily).

When I tried to go higher, I got I guess what would be brain fog. I wasn't tired and didn't feel stupid on it, but felt like I had a condom on my brain!

Anyone add LAMICTAL to KEPRRA??

Hi,
Thanx for the reply.. I'm currently at 1000 mg twice per day... I understand that one has to get upto 2000/3000 mg/day for keppra to have optimal effects.. I just recently made the jump from 1500 mg/day.. At 1500, I was still depressed and had cognitive fog.. If this continues at 2000/3000 mg, I believe I'm going to add back in lamictal.. When I was on lamictal monotherapy, the lamictal made me hypomanic for a couple days and then I had a significant depressive crash.. I wonder if keppra can help 'harness' the lamictal for me.. any thoughts?
