Gabitril

Anyone have experience with it? I had to go off my Risperdal which worked great...because it was making me twitch. My psydoc prescribed Gabitril as a mood stabilizer. Anyone?

I, and some others on this board, got ideas of reference- a type of paranoia in which you are convined insignfigant objects have an irrational signifigance that relates back to you (I stumbled upon the definition once online and it precisely defined what I felt). I slept it off, thank god. But scared my roommates that night.

I told my doc, but he didn't exactly write to the FDA over it. I think you're suppose to, but he probably thought it was so rare it didn't matter. The side effect is not listed in the PDR.

Odds are, you won't get this. I don't suffer from any paranoid disorder. It was just a freaky reaction. I was also on Effexor at the time. It made me sleepy the days before it caused this. Good luck with it. It's basically another form of Neurontin. All sorts of Neurontin wanna-bes out there-- anticonvulsants. They make you stupid, though, it's not like benzos, they're not clean like benzos or SSRIs.

Personally, I'd try something with a little more clinical backing...like trileptal. Or another atypical (Abilify works well, for example). Gabitril isn't really all that well studied for mood stabilization...its supposedly good for anxiety, but I'd take a benzo over it any day (the studies, according to my shrink, haven't been well designed and have mostly been funded by the manufacturer).

I tried it for a couple of months. It did zip for me. Neurontin is a much more effective mood stabilizer for me.
