Hi,
I dont know what to do. I tried to change meds unsuccessfully about 3 months ago. I was on 40 mg of paxil and 50 mg of trazodone, which worked well at the time I took it. Then I decided that I gained too much weight on paxil and tried to swithc to lexapro, which didnt work. I'm back on paxil but am now taking it in the cr form at 75 mg. The dr swithced me to mertazepine (remeron) for my insomnia. I currently take 2 1/2 tabs of it to sleep. But now I am sleeping and eating too much. The dr recommended that I go up to take 3 tabs of mertazepine which works as well, but I still feel fatigued, and I eat a lot (that's why I want to get off the durn thing!)
In my last visit the dr suggested that I try sonata or ambien, which I am willing to try, but he seems concerned that since those are sleep aids only I wont get the ad effect that the mertazepine gives me.To make things worse, the trazodone which I was taking that worked well for me doesnt make me fall asleep anymore. It' just makes me drowsy, but not enough to sleep.
For some reason, I get insomnia from the paxil, and I wish the trazodone worked. I dont want to take the remeron anymore, and want something that will help me sleep that isint "possibly habit forming" like the remeron or ambien.
I dont even know if the ad effects of the remeron help me, I dont know what to do. Has anyone who has ssri induced insomnia tried ambien for sleep and have taken trazodone before?
I'm just curious

I have never taken Ambien, but I know from a lot of reading that it is very effective. It's not addictive. Some people say it's habit forming since they can't sleep if they stop taking it, but they couldn't sleep before they started taking it either.
Paxil and Remeron do tend to cause weight gain more often than some of the other AD's. Lexapro usually does not cause weight gain, but it did not work for you. What dose did you try and for how long?

I was on lexapro for about 2 months up to 30 mg dosage. I was just a zombie, I also suffer from GAD, no anxiety though when I was on lexapro, I was just very depressed, and not eating at all.

Seroquel or Risperdal might be options. I used to take Remeron and it made me hungry all day long. Now I take 100mg of Seroquel which only makes me hungry shortly after it kicks in, but then I'm in bed so I don't eat :-) How many mg's of Remeron r u taking? Some say it is more stimulating at higher doses, so a lower dose might make u sleep better? but, that wouldn't help the weight thing. Both of the AP's I mentioned also effect histamine as does the Remeron, but these two don't have effects that last all dat long. Good luck..Peace
