Hi Christina,
I've been on Effexor XR since May and have had no weight gain. I started out at 150 mg and as of last Wednesday am on 300 mg. By the way, that is a real high dose, usually the max for Effexor XR is 225mg. How many mgs are you on?
I completely get why you're afraid Effexor will cause you to gain weight. I've been bulimic for 26 years and weigh myself twice a day.
When I'm in a major depression I stop eating. My relapse binges seem to be triggered by stress and anxiety. I've had one binge since May and it was definitely stress induced.
My pdoc will not prescribe Wellbutrin because he t thinks it would trigger anorexia. It's probably why you were switched off of it. Effexor XR has nasty withdrawl effects. I would not stop cold turkey without talking to the doctor first. I had Paxil withdrawl even though I was taking Effexor XR at the same time for two weeks.
Hope I helped. I hope you don't gain weight.
