My doc also told me that there is a SLIGHT (1%) chance of long term risperdal use causing permanent neurological damage..such as facial twitches or slight involuntary arm movements, etc...I'm getting bloodwork done so he can monitor my triglyceride levels for a while...Anyone heard of this one?
thanks

Well that's just great. I started twitching last week and I've been on Risperdal for two years. I have twitches everywhere. I have even twitched in my butt! I'm waiting to get into my psy.

it also can cause "picking" at skin...causing sores, etc. even after it is discontinued, elderly patients will continue that behavior.

It's for this reason that I get slightly anoyed when I read about pdoc putting people on AP's for anxiety without trying somthing else first. The drugs works wonders if you need them and surely do less long term neuro-damage than a bullet, but they are too often used as a first line med, imho.

the patient i'm talking about was put on four different meds...and no reason whatsoever for the risperdal. she was a zombie. a zombie that picked at herself constantly. i find that elderly patients are frequently over medicated, without reason.
