SSRI's caused bipolar symptoms?

Posted by becksA on September 26, 2004, at 8:57:58

I am seeing a new pdoc, he's very highly regarded in the area, and seems very very good. He says that in some people that have a genetic disposition to it, prolonged use to SSRI's can bring about symptoms of bipolarity....I have been on and off different SSRI's for many years now (non worked), and after a long time on Zoloft these symptoms arose. Anybody heard about this happening?

It happens to me and I am greatful for it if anything.. it's pretty mild and it seems to make me much brighter.. I am able to right excellent papers for school when i'm in this phase.. The only thing I notice really is rapid talking and an increase in socializing.. the effects are pretty mild though compared to actual bipolar..as it is something I can keep undercontrol.. with no problem..
