so the fellow in the health food store told me L-tryptophan was the best natural antidepressant....more powerful than st. john's wart, more studies done on it, and supposedly it works within the first day....
would you tend to agree?

at 2-5grams, it DEFINATELY has AD properties. It is very good at a high dose, esp combined with Lithium. I tried it for 2 weeks (all i could afford) -- It definatelky made me happy, but on withdrawal it made my anxiety worse for 1-3 days...
....more powerful than st. john's wartdon't know about this, but I might try it. They say its contraindicated with Nardil...but to be honest, I have taken at least 5 meds contraindicated with Nardil and had NO probs. I also ignore the diet and have had NO probs, except one hypertensive episode a couple years back...
, more studies done on it, and supposedly it works within the first day....I am sceptical that any med, natural or not, works in the first day to produce an AD response. Only one exception: Tramadol.

questions bro! thanks for replying... i would really like to know... 2 - 5 grams
a) how many times a day?
b) how long did it take you to notice an effect?
c) was it in combination with another drug?

Ace I would love to hear your experiences with studying pharmacology (?) and any work experience or ideas of what job your studies might lead to
Take care! Long live MAOIs ;)

I have tried L-tryptophan a few times. They say that 5-htp is stronger, since it is L-tryptophan's metabolite, but in my experience L-tryptophan feels much more potent. Yes it is more potent than st. john's wort -- which just tends to make me sleepy. Yes there is an immediate effect - within 30min of taking it. I would characterize it as at first energizing then hypnotic. For me the effects were not effectively anti-depressant, this was at 500 mg. I can't imagine taking 2 grams! At 500mg I would feel extremely calm and dazed, in the emotionally blunted ssri way. My balance was affected also, I found myself stumbling a bit, etc. Of course there's no way to see how you'll react until you try it. I heard it's becoming more available in the U.S. now, I didn't know they were selling it in health food stores now though.

Oh yeah! With Nardil, Zyprexa, Xanax and also , I believe at that time Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, and magnesium. I dont take any 'natural' remedies now, because they are costly and mostly ineffective UNLESS high doses are used (which costs more!!!)

parnate keeps me HAPPY and i'm relatively stable...
MAOIs are the best!
clonazepam (high dose) does a decent job with my anxiety but not when ritalin is added ...
maybe add a small dose of Xanax?
my life is pretty much perfect... my only fear is that i might not be able to stomach med school and go into pharmacology (or pharmacy, can't decide) instead... or stick with computer programming (who knows might end up in melbourne sometime soon mate)
Where are you now bro???
... damn people who know me and are pharmacology students tell me i should be doing research but doctors won't even give me 5 minutes to demonstrate how much i know from talking to you guys, seeing the #1 pdoc in the city, and having read the majority of the pharmacology, pharmacy, psychiatry (irrelevent i guess) textbooks and many psychopharmacology textbooks/journals as well
Most psychs are VERY pressed for time, so they can't chit-chat, and some don't want you to know about pharmacology cause they want to be the Boss!
> Ace I would love to hear your experiences with studying pharmacology (?) and any work experience or ideas of what job your studies might lead toI have studied neuronatomy, pharmacolgy, and am currently almost finished my science degree. I sit for medical school next year. Then 4 years and my psychiatric training begins...
> Take care! Long live MAOIs ;)
Indeed!!!! I am the Nardil champ!!!!!Ace
