Hello. I have been prescribed adderall xr and will begin taking it for the first time tomorrow. I am to take one capsule( 5 mg) in the morning after breakfast for the next few days and then double it once my body has acclimated.
My question is what should I expect and are there any tips from those who have taken this.

r u taking it for add? my cousin took it and it helped her conentrate, she cleaned alot when she took it to.; i took one before and it was like a caffene pill. but if you were prescribed it, you should like it, my cousin said it really helped her. what are you on it for?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am taking it for add. I waited until I was 30 to finally admit to myself that I could not fight this battle by myself. Problems concentrating, following through, getting projects done. I seem to fit the catagory of add perfectly. I was just able to to do enough to get by and I did not have the typical hyper-activity of an add child so I did not see a professional until now.

I started my add treatment with the XR, used it for about a month. It works by releasing 2 doses of adderall into your system, one immediately, and another coated in wax that releases about 5 hours later. You may in fact be able to feel when the first wears off and the second starts; however doubtful at the starting dose... I ended up switching to the immediate release because I found the XR didn't provide 'coverage' throughout the day. I also have much more control over my dosing, say one day I have to work and study and go to classes or whatever -- I take 10mg 3x that day. But the next I get to sleep in, and mostly have nothing "important to do" I might only take 5mg 2 or 3x. I have also tried ritalin and far prefer the adderall, though some might argue otherwise. You may want to check out the ADD forum over at http://www.amenclinic.com - They all are on adderall and have had TONS of experience with it. Good luck!

I'm glad you metioned having control of your doses on your "days off" from work, etc. After reading that many people seem to build up a tolerance after sometime and have trouble sleeping on occasion that it might help to not take as much on the days it is not needed such as on the weekends for me.
I suppose I'll find out over the next few weeks.I'll keep you posted.

I've been Adderall ER (generic) for three weeks to give a boost to the Wellbutrin SR that I'm on for dysthymia and lack of motivation (and other symptoms similar to the non-hyper Type II ADD).
Anyway, the first week I took 10mg, but didn't feel much after the third day. Then I went up to 20 mg, which was a little better. I talked to my doctor and will now take 20mg in the morning and another 10mg in the afternoon if needed.

I took it the over the weekend and this morning I had 10 mg with food and I am not noticing a difference now. I am also trying to stay away from caffeine so I don't know if that is effecting me right now by not having any to pick me up. On a typical morning I would have already consumed coffee and a diet coke by now (10:30 am).
