I take Perphenazine sometimes for anxiety. I have depression with a lot of anxiety. Just started some amisulpride and it helps some. Was wondering if perhaps I should try Ablify for the depression and anxiety since the perphenazine helps but I only take it when I am extremely anxious?
Any thought?

Hi.
If you are looking to use something on an as-needed basis, I'm not sure Abilify is the right drug for you. Early in treatment, it can actually produce anxiety and restlessness. If you were to consider using it every day, it might be OK. It has a long half-life. You might do well with 5-10mg per day. I am currently taking 10mg.
What about Zyprexa or Seroquel as a PRN? Seroquel can be soporific, but isn't so for everyone. It wasn't for me.

Upon further reflection, I can't say that I am sure that Abilify is not the right drug for you to use as a PRN. I think it is worth getting a prescription for a handful of pills and giving it a try. What could it hurt? It is certainly a cleaner drug for most people than is Zyprexa or Seroquel with respect to sedation and weight gain. Try it. I'll be curious to read your report.

Scott,
I was looking to use something on a regular basis. Not sure if taking the Ablify with the Amisulpride is the right thing to do?
I tried Zyprexa and a few others, not Seroquel and anyway they never worked much. Not like the perphenazine which is great on an as needed basis.
Do you think it makes sense to take the Amisulpride with teh Ablify on a regular basis?
Thanks,irene

By the way what dose of Ablify should I start with? And increase to?
I'll see if I can look it up but you have some experience.

Hi Irene,
I don't think you want to take Abilify for anxiety. I've been on it for a while. The fist time I was on it I was a nervous reck for several months. It caused extreem anxiety and restlesness. I quit it, but now I'm back on it. At 5 and 10mgs it was fine. As soon as I went up to 15 mgs I had akithisia (when you just can't sit still, did I spell that righ?).Maybe you can take it at a low dose. Maybe start at 5mg or lower (all under the supervision of a doc of corse). Then increase to 10mg, but I wouldn't go any higher than that (I had to go back down to 10 myself.) However, it was very effective at lifting depression for me ( in conjunction to other meds).
Good luck,

I'm confused now. What exactly are people taking the Abilify for? I thought it was adjunctive to other meds for anxiety caused by depression. It appears that I was wrong.
The Amisulpride is doing some for my anxiety. I take it for depression. Unfortunately I cannot take more than 50mg of the Amisulpride. I think more would make a lot of difference.
Perhaps I should take the Klonopin on a regular basis to help calm and relax me and then maybe I would not be so tense and my neck muscles would not spasm so much.
I’ve gone bouncing of walls here. Hope everyone can keep up with the ever-changing train of thought! Sorry.:)

Abilify is actually an antipsychotic. I'm taking it for Major Depression with pyschotic features. I haven't heard of it being used for anything else, but that's just the limit of my knowlege.
Sorry, I don't know anything about Amisulpride, and not much about anxiety. I just know that my doc prescribed Gabatril for my anxiety when I was going crazy because of the Abilify. But the thing that worked best for me was going off the Abilify :-p
Best of luck, hope you feel better soon,

Abilify simply made me sedated all day, did nothing for depression.
