Hi, I am so glad to have found this site. I have discontinued taking Lexapro, and experienced the same out of body electric sensation experienced by other posters. After almost a week, I'm wondering how much longer I have until I feel "normal" My doctor is no help--I lost my health coverage, and she basically let me discontinue treatment with no guidance. Fortunately, I can visit my school's health clinic , which is where I first learned that what I feared was some auto immune disease, was "just withdrawal"
Any one out there have a report about how long your w-period was--also it could be helpful to tell me how long you were taking lex, before you discontinued/
Thank you!

Well, I know now for sure that it varies heavily from person to person. Believe me, I have gone on just about every board posting when is this going to end. Some people get over it quick and with few problems. Some are worse. I seem to be one of the bad cases. I tapered down from 10mg to 0 over a month and I am now over 7 weeks into it and still feeling the effects. I luckily never got the famous zaps, but nausea, dizziness, and anxiety have been prevelant througout.
I write this not to scare you. I know it sucks to think it may last awhile, but I just wanted to share my experiences with you. There are things you can take to ease the withdrawal. Check the alternative board. Here are the two most important things in my opinion. I think I have made my withdrawal last longer than it should because all I did for the first 5 weeks was lay around waiting to feel better. That is a huge mistake. You MUST be proactive as hard as that may be. Stay active. I know that sounds hard, but it will do two things. It will keep your mind off it and it is good for you. Laying around obsessing about how long it is going to take or if you have been permanently effected is a terrible thing to do. The other things are that you must drink tons of water and exercise. I can't emphasize exercise enough. Even when you are feeling your worst you should force yourself to exercise. I am talking really getting out there and sweating and going until you are pooped. It has helped me tremendously. I still fell lousy, but it is only in periods of the day instead of all day. The other thing is to turn to your higher power(in my case Christ) and ask for strength to get through it. It really helps you cope. You CAN do this. Don't give into the drug. I don't give a damn what anyone else says about these drugs being addictive or not. I think they are and it takes a strong will on your part. I am doing this and I have been having a horrible time the last year. If I can, you can. Exercise and connect with that higher power. You can do it. Good luck. All the best,
Casey

Casey, thank you for your reply, I feel fortunate that thus far, my symptoms have been fairly mild, and do seem to improve over the course of any day. My daily yoga practice definately helps, even though at times my body feels like I'm orbiting in outer space. Inspired by my brother in-law, who is regulating his mood with careful food combining, I am adding a variety of whole grains to my daily diet--it is really impressive the effect brown rice seems to have on my ablilty to ride out the waves.
Hope you are doing well today.
Take care!
