I have been off my effexor for almost a month now (i forgot how long, but i think that is about right)... i am so glad the side effects are gone, but is there anything natural i can try for the same effects? I dont know a lot about SJW or other stuff, but i am wanting to find info and try it out... I know most of you know all about the AD's and other options, so any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks....jenn

>Hi Jenn,
What sort of symptoms are you trying to treat now that Effexor has left the building?
'Natural' things like SJW still contain drugs, the active parts of SJW is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, it's just not a terribly effective one. Unfortunately, the better a drug works, the worse the side effects are going to be. I am trying to taper off of Effexor too, but I will probably always take a low dose of a sedating TCA because they improve my sleep incredibly well.
Cheers,
Paul.

well, to be honest, i am not sure... i know i am moody more than normal, sometimes sad and panicy- sometimes i just get really irritated and mad over nothing. plus i have a lot of stress right now, so i think it is all the above that makes my feel worn out and exhausted all the time. the effexor made me feel calmer (per the doc that i looked calmer) :) and i did notice that little things didnt bother me as much. but i dont have insurance right the moment and w/ the hurricane costs now (lucky 2 b in florida) i cant get insurance for a little while to get to a doc to get meds that work. so in a nutshell, i am looking for something i can try OTC that may help a little w/ my moods and stress. :) sorry to babble on....
thanks, jenn

>I'd ask your doctor for a trial of one of the older TCA's. They would be both cheaper & more effective than anything that I can think of that is OTC.

Hi Jenn,
I am in similar situation. Have been off of Effexor for a week and not sure what to do next. FYI, also in FL going thru the hurricanes! Anyway, I suggest you go the Alternative board if you are looking for OTC nonRX treatments. Lots of good info. there.Good luck!
