Hi, my mind seems to race constantly with anxious anxiety driven thoughts. It seems hard to calm down. I appear normal on the outside and people such as family and friends assume I have it all together. But on the inside my brain is going haywire.
I currently take a SSRI, SNRI, and a benzo. Could the SSRI (Lexapro) be causing my mind to race uncontralably? Are is there medications to slow your thinking and calm the racing thoughts?
Thanks,
BRC

Yes, the benzo's do help some. I take Klonopin and have been on it for several years. I take what is considered a high dose 4mg(2mg in the morning and 2mg at night). When I first take the Klonopin it helps. But as the day goes on its effects wear off quickly.
I have heard bad stories about addiction to these types of medications so I am weary about taking more. I have never tried any other benzo's.
Thanks for your response. Hope to hear your comments or ideas on the situation.

Mood stabilizers (depakote, topomax, etc.) might help-they are used for people with BP2 who become hypomanic on antidepressants and racing thoughts can be one of the symptoms of hypomania.
