Posted by tepiaca on August 23, 2004, at 14:34:52

Hello !
I only want to know if somebody out there has had better results for the treatment of Social Phobia
on Parnate than on Nardil

I know Nardil has greater reputation to treat succesively this problem .
But does anybody has found that Parnate helps more than the Nardil???

Any experience will be really appreciated
thanks !

I would think that the two drugs would work well for different cases.

Nardil has a Gaba effect and might help if your SP is accompanied by great anxiety, physical or emotioinal. Parnate might be a better choice when if you think you lack motivation/confidence in social situations. Its stimulant like effect might improve confidence/cognition. If you think your phobia is accompanied by a lack of confidence then this one might help more.

What Linkadge said is pretty good. Nardil causes weight gain, Parnate is probably one of the few AD's that doesn't. Nardil nearly allways lowers blood pressure, can go either way on Parnate & is more likely to cause a hypertensive crisis if you eat something bad.

Cheers,
Panda.

Hi Tepiaca, it's Don here. This web site http://www.socialfear.com/ suggests that Nardil is the "gold standard" for meds for social phobia. It is well worth having a look at the site and reading his information as it is well written.

thanks for your inputs

I take klonopin which help a little on my SP , but I take it mainly for the imsomnia problems that causes nardil.

I have not found great relief on drugs that works on the GABA system (benzos and others), only a little bit of help ffrom them to treat my fear

I really have no motivation yet to start talking with people . Moreover I have no confindence when I go out . At least not the confidence I want to have .
Nardil has help me incredibly , but it seems that even this wonder drug canŽt give me at least 80% relief . Im on 60mg now , I guess I will try 75 and then 90 , and if this does not work IŽll have to go for the Parnate

Thank you for your thoughts
