I have been on prozac 40mg for almost 2 months.Since yesterday i have been feeling severely depressed.I know its because i drank 4 days out of last week. The last day being Friday.I also think its because i saw my x-girlfriend and some old feelings returned. My concern is i start school next monday and i want to be back to my oldself.i guess i am just looking for some encouragement.I quit drinking because i know alcohol is a depressant and is not making things any better.

Just wanted to say I take prozac too and noticed I dont drink as much as i did on say..paxil, zoloft etc...I got really drunk at a party a few weeks ago and felt sooooo bad for like a week. I think its best to stay away from alcohol on prozac. Are you taking any other meds? Just know that you will feel better soon and cut the drinks down like your doing..you dont want to counter-act the whole reason you are taking meds. Keep your chin up and try to see the bright side of things. I know its hard, but its the only way..

If you were feeling fine before you drank and saw your old girlfriend, then I would continue with Prozac. You already know that alcohol is a no-no when taking an AD, so why take a chance of sabotaging the positive effects of Prozac. I took Prozac for over 7 years and it was the very first AD prescribed for my unipolar depression. Prozac saved my life. I am currently taking Lexapro as Prozac pooped out after 7 years of excellent results. I was actually taking 100mg of Prozac which is 20mg over the recommended max dose. Hang in there and stay away from alcohol if you want to continue to reap the benefits of Prozac. Good luck to you.

Did you ever take a generic version of Prozac or the name brand. If you did take generic, do you remember from which company? Did you ever try the Prozac Weekly?
I haven't really tried Prozac since it went generic and since you were on it for a long period of time, I was wanting your input.

Did you ever try the Prozac Weekly?I am with Kaiser Health plan and now that you mentioned it I believe that when I first took Prozac in 1991, I was taking the Prozac brand. However, a couple of years later, Kaiser switched me to the generic Prozac. I don't remember the brand name, but my last Rx of Prozac was the generic brand, Mallinckrod. I never tried the weekly Prozac.

I just assumed that Prozac just pooped out, but, it is possible that the generic brand was not as effective as the Prozac brand. Well anyway, that is water under the bridge. Besides, I am feeling just as good as when I first started taking Prozac, now, that I am taking Lexapro.
Hope this helps you.FST
