paxil is the only ssri that works for my anxiety. All the other ones helped but paxil is the only one that completely cured all of my anxiety and phobias, generalized anxiety etc. I think this is because paxil is the only ssri that has noradrenaline reuptake and anti-cholinergic properites as well as more potent serotonergic properties. Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine/anticholinergic approved for the treatment of anxiety. This probably explains that the anticholinergic properties of paxil is why it cures all my anxiety. If Hydroxyzine is approved for anxiety then how come bendryl is not? Benadryl has the same action as Hydroxyzine.

I am glad paxil worked for you. I have social phobia etc...and it didnt work for me...:( xanax has been the best thing for my phobias. Anyway, doesnt Benadryl make you very sleepy? Perhaps thats why they dont want us taking that for anxiety. ???

great to hear that paxil worked for you. can I ask you if you've had any other side effects? I just got off effexor and want to try paxil, but am fearful of the weight gain & sedation. Also, are you just taking paxil for anxiety and not depression? I have both, but the anxiety is just as horrific. I tend to blush a lot in social situations and haven't found a med that works on that. Effexor worked but I had to walk away from it because of the devastating side effects.
Thanks for your post.
