ssri weight gain....doseage related?

Posted by platinumbride on July 27, 2004, at 14:54:39

Hello everyone, and thanks again for helping me through the past few weeks.

I am now on 600 mgs of lithium and 100 mgs of zoloft, which, if I choose to, I may add another 100 mgs.

Now I am at the point where the very thought of food is nauseating, but I know that this will probably pass and may turn into an eating frenzy, Is this more likely to happen on a higher dose of the zoloft? Ultimately, if it were to make me feel fabulous and all, that would mean me caring enough about myself to exercise and watch my caloric intake, but of course there is no guarantee of that!!!

I DO have to say that I am feeling much better in general. I dont' know if it is placebo or a "honeymoon" period I sometimes have with new drugs and the hope that they will work. I wonder if it is simply the lithium, which I believe works faster than do the ssris.

Looks as if I have introduced several topics here....

If anyone has any clues they will, as always, be appreciated.

Diane

I am on Lexapro 10 mg and I have gained 6 pounds. I have never been on a diet, but now I am. The doc said the ssri's wt gain comes on after the 3rd month. The weight is so stuborn. It refuses to come off. I am drinking those low carb shakes and cereal. Nothing is working. When I exercise, it may take off a pound. It's so frustrating.

I too took prozac, but after a few months I started gaining weight even though I ate less and excercized...SSRIs weight gain appear later (2-3months),and has no connection to how much you eat or how much you diet, you will continue gaining weight.the ONLY way that I lost all the weight (and I'm normaly a skinny)was by stopping prozac, and, gradually and within 3-5months I returned to my normal weight.
Also, take care that you are taking Lithium and Lithium is well-known for its weight-gain effects.

adding wellbutrin to minimize weight gain?

I just CANNOT gain anymore weight. Since 2001 I have gained 100 lbs due, in large part, to meds.
It appears now that I may have polycystic ovarian syndrome, and this may have come about due to obesity.

sigh... I just don't know what to do, so I just thought of the wellbutrin I have hanging aroung and wondered if it could belp.
