Another Provigil question

Posted by Dinah on July 23, 2004, at 21:40:49

I went down to 50 mg and the worst of the side effects have stopped. I still get headaches, but I know longer feel like ripping off my skin or like my muscles are fluttering.

But...

Even though I am absolutely positively less sleepy on Provigil than I was off, my productivity hasn't improved. My concentration is poor. My spelling and grammar and word substitution has gotten even worse. If I'm not going to accomplish more, I think I'd rather be unproductive sleeping than flitting around. Sleeping is much more pleasant.

But it's early yet. I've only been on a week. Will my brain settle down any after a while?

Maybe the concentration problems are related to less sleep time overall, and you could solve it by getting more sleep at night.

Just a thought.

That may well be it. I'm not sure there are enough hours in the night to make up for how much I used to sleep though. :)

I'm a bit discouraged overall. Provigil seemed like a last ditch effort to get my productivity to a normal level. If this fails, I'm going to have to pare my life down to its essentials.

It's hard getting this drug to work for me also. It causes insomnia which sends me into terrible depressions if it goes on too long. So I've lowered the dosage to 50 mg and tried to reduce my caffeine consumption to a bare minimum (caffeine is the only thing that seems to wake me up, even though I have a terrible time going to sleep-makes no sense but there it is). I'm supposed to wait until the sleep and depression are under control before going up to 75 mg. It's frustrating because I want to feel alert now!

I know there's Ambien, Halcion, etc. but I don't like taking meds to counter the side effects of other meds. I hope we can both figure out how to make Provigil work for us.
