Hi, I am 7 year user of Serzone, my Question is if I switch to Effexor or something, will it Ease the withdrawal of cutting down the Serzone ? I know from experiece and talking to others the withdrawal and reduction is just plain hell without any other Med to Substitue. PLEASE someone I am getting more scared by the day thinking "WHAT IF" they ban it alltogether. Be truthful with me, am I in for a rough road even switching should I get off of Nefazodone after 7 years ? Let me know please, with BRUTE Honesty.

I know that switching off of some AD's is rough for a week or 2. I don't know about Serzone.
I have read posts of people who ease the problem of Effexor withdrawal by taking Prozac. Maybe you should ask your doctor about taking Prozac while gradually getting off of Serzone.
Hopefully Serzone will not be discontinued.

I used a small dose (10 mg) of Prozac to help get me off of Serzone and trazadone - both of which I had been taking for about four years. I found I could not taper the Serzone on my own, but when I added the prozac I was able to.
Good luck

Hi Tony
It sounds like you have really been struggling to get off Serzone. When I tried to do it the first time I had a really tough time too. The funny thing is, the doctor told me I should experience no withdrawal and it would be easy. Not true!! Anyway, I decided I wanted to have a baby and Serzone was not a good choice for pregnancy. So, we decided to augment with a little prozac (in the morning). First I went off the trazadone - which I was taking at night. Then I started to cut my day dose - my anxiety cropped up mostly at night, so that is why we decided to drop the daytime dose. It could be different for you. I went down 25 mg every three weeks - oh from 450 mg of serzone and 50 mg of trazadone. Eventually, I came off the serzone. I was still having a bit of trouble sleeping, so I took .5 mg of Klonopin at night - until I could come off the prozac, which I finally did. Now my last hurdle is the Klonopin, which I am still working on. How are things going for you? It is difficult, but it is possible. I also take a number of supplements and exercise at least one hour per day. Good luck, let me know how it is going...

Dear Travelar, thanks for your reply - My Dilemna is, I was told OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER that I would need this for life, cause of PTSD and Clin Depression, which I got cause I wife and kids almost died in a very bad FREAK winter time flood, which me and my family sat on our kitchen counter pitch dark, freezing to death, no knowing if our home would just collapse from the force of the rushing water, the raging water was rushing through our home 1 inch below us from the kitchen counter. It definitely was a night of HELL my own TITANIC experince till rescued by Helicopter 8 hours into it. I was packed in blankets and takin to the ER with a body temp of 92.8 just about froze to death. Anyhow, I do not know for sure if that DEPRESSING event, which I lost all our stuff, and our Home, and almost our lifes makes me qualify for a LIFETIME serzone. yes 1 year 3 months later I had a delayed nervous breakdown in which I lost 50 lbs in 3 weeks, total insomnia, and I mean total I must of slept 3 hours in 3 months, everytime I closed my eyes vivid startling images, constipation etc. suicidal etc. BUT I only ever took 200mg of Serzone a day, and got better. Now yes 1 depressing TRAUMATIC event in my life, brought about the CRIPPLING depression, but I do NOT think 7 years later at 34 years old, I should have to take Serzone for LIFE. I mean my BIGGEST fear is the WITHDRAWAL. Traveler how long were you on it ? What suplements are you taking ? I experimented a month or so ago, I filed down from 200mg a day, to about 180 and felt kinda sick, even that slow, not too bad, but I thought 'OH NO I NEED IT FOR LIFE" The ONLY benefit that gives me hope, is that I noticed a libido coming out again, I forgot what one was for the last 7 years, now that I am back on the 200mg it is gone again (Libido) Also, I got EXTRA stress, cause I am ONLY Bread winner and work 40 to 60 hours a week, mortgage etc. I cannot withdrawal quick, and be disabled. When you reduced please list to me all your SYMPTOMS you had, so I can compare with my book of notes of ones I marked down. I am going to see Doc soon, and tell him I have had enough.
Pleasse keep replying.Sincerely - Tony C.

>Hi Tony,
With BRUTE honesty, Nefazodone should be very easy to withdrawl from. Withdrawl effects will be very tame compared to the problems people have with drugs like Effexor, Paxil & Xanax. I think you are winding yourself up far too much & this is probably a sign that you have an axiety disorder that isn't really being treated properly by Nefazodone. Have you tried any other antidepressants?
Cheers,
Panda.
