HELP - Need advice, your experience, suggestions..

Posted by Finchi on July 20, 2004, at 17:22:24

Background Information:
I have been off Effexor RX 150 for 2 months. I was on Effexor for about 8 months and in general had a pleasant experience with it. I did have the night sweats, insane dreams, flare up of acne and the dreaded weight gain of 12 lbs. First time I was on an antidepressant - the reason I went on it was obviously a depression which was caused from 2 previous very rough years ... I did the therapy and drugs and hit the point where I felt I had dealt with my issues and found a great place to be and the drug side effects were now worse than what I initially went on them for.

So I weaned off ... but I still feel like crap 2 months later... I am moody as hell, I can cry at a drop of a hat, I feel panic and anixety. I am tired and losing motivation, and in general not happy. I was never this bad before the drugs. Is this normal? My Dr said the drugs are out of your system in 2 weeks... does it take time for the body to heal and learn to balanced on its own?

Does anyone know how long this withdrawl can last? Or where I can look up more information... I really dont want to go back on drugs but I really dont like how I am feeling these days. I just dont know if this what I am like (which I can't recall being this emotional EVER!) or the effects of the drug I was on.

If want to feel normal again... I dont like these all over the map emotions especially the crying... Any help, advice or places I can do research on post drug effects would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard of people having severe withdrawl from Effexor. I was on it for a year before it pooped out and went immediately onto another drug. I didn't have any withdrawl problems.
I would think that 2 months is plenty long enough to be off effexor. Perhaps you still need some therapy/med?
In my opinion, and this is probably WAY out in left field, I think that when our brains become used to a medication, then that med is taken away, it doesn't know how to function like it used to. Now, I know that our brains aren't a seperate entity and we're supposed to have control over our thoughts, but the chemical make up can change so drastically. Maybe therapy can straighten that out, I don't know.
So, back to your question. You really should contact your doc and let him/her know what's going on. It may be that you still need some meds to keep your chemical make up balanced.
Best wishes,
