I suffer from depression/anxiety, and am currently taking Manerix, Valium, and Lithium.I am on my third day of taking Provigil at 50mg once a day. I felt a stimulating effect on day one,and now on day three I feel very stimulated,(not a good stimulation feeling)and agitated.I feel very hungry and became more depressed. I think the depression came from the disappointment that I am not responding well to Provigil. I was feeling bad enough today that I did not want to leave my apartment but did force myself out the door.
Would taking 25mg be a good idea???I would appreciate hearing from others who have tried it.
Thanks....

I experienced a great deal of the sort of agitation you're describing when I first took Provigil. At the time, I was also taking Prozac, Xanax for sleep, and Strattera; then Zoloft and first desipramine, then Zoloft and Lamictal. (Xanax for sleep the entire time.) The agitation was terrible, and I attributed it to the only "stimulant" medication I was taking. I tried reducing it to 50 mgs, but no better. So, I stopped taking it...
[insert theme from "Jaws" here]
Within a couple of days, I had crashed. It was terrible. It felt as if every benefit I had been attributing to the other drugs was just gone. Then a bunch of other things happened, and I stopped taking all the drugs entirely.
A while later, in desperation, I started just the Provigil again, and miraculously the agitation wasn't there at all. In fact, the general anxiety I get as a side order with depression was reduced a great deal. Since starting the Provigil again, my doctor prescribed Prozac again -- and within the first day the overwhelming agitation was back, full blast.
What I guess I'm trying to say is that it may not be the Provigil itself causing this reaction, although it may be. I'd suggest talking to your doctor about it.
And other posters here have had good luck with Provigil by cutting the tablets into pieces - up to what was described by one into "slivers" of about 12.5 mgs. So, in the meantime, if you're an experimenter (as I tend to be), go ahead and try it.
Best luck to you.

Hi.
There would be no harm in experimenting in the way that Racer suggests. Stranger things have happened. Sometimes, there is no accounting for what works and what doesn't. The brain is just so complex and variable between individuals.
I have tried Provigil twice. Both times, it made me feel significantly worse. The first time I tried it, I actually responded well to it for a few hours after the first dose. After that, however, it just produced anxiety and exacerbated the depression, especially cognitive symptoms. For me, Provigil is poison.

How long were your trials on provigil, and were you taking any other meds??
Thanks for your feed back...
