Anyone with Paxil experience?

Posted by holymama on June 28, 2004, at 16:37:08

Does anyone have any comments on Paxil, especially how it compares to other SSRIs, especially lexapro?
I just started Paxil today, only 5 mg as I'm making a changeover from Lexapro. I'm bipolar II and Lexapro only worked well for the first 3 months. After that it's made me rapid cycle and become very anxious. My pdoc thinks paxil might be better, especially to calm my anxiety. I need to tame a wild depression.
Any comments appreciated!

Paxil was the only SSRI i've used, so i couldn't tell you how it compares to others. However, judging from how one of my neurotic-but-not-bipolar friends went crazily hypomanic on Paxil, how SSRIs can fairly commonly switch one (especially a bipolar person) into hypomania, and how you reacted to Lexapro, i would strongly suggest talking to your doctor about adding a mood stabilizer to the Paxil. Otherwise you might be bouncing off the walls.
Just my personal opinion. Good luck.
