Has anyone had wellbutrin induced delusions such as scizophrenic paranoia?
I recently started taking 300mg XR and within few days i noticed total lost of judgement and felt as if i was being followed, and that people I don't know were specificly there to intimitade me and follow me to disturb me. Sort of ghost like feelings towards people that surrond you, as if they were watching you and fooling around with you, making fun of you, etc...
Now i am back to 150 mg and still feel a bit of backgroung "buzz" of thoughts. Doctor put me on 40 mg geodon [ ziprasidone ] because he thinks that i am bipolar and that i have a "spectrum" depression.
I see no point in taking wellbutrin which agonizes dopamine, and taking geodon which antagonizes it.
I'll keep you posted of the results...Any input would be apreciated.
=========Ziprasidone is unique to the atypical armamentarium because it is the only one that is a serotonin 1D (5HT1D) antagonist, a serotonin 1A (5HT1A) agonist, and a reducer of the synaptic reuptake of both serotonin and norepinephrine. In brief, it is an antagonist at D2, 5HT2A and 5HT1D and an agonist at 5HT1A receptors.

I went psychotic the two times I tried Wellbutrin. I simply changed meds. It was awful!

Maxime - Would you mind elaborating on your Wellbutrin experience? I'm going to start taking it this weekend - the SR version where you take 150mg in am and 150mg later in day(coming off of Lex) and I'm a little nervous. What is your diagnosis? What actually happened to you? Were you taking any other meds at the time, or weaning off something else? Any comments you care to share would be appreciated :-).

Sure.
I wasn't on the SR version. And my dx is BP1. After about two days I became very agitated. The agitated grew into paranoia. The paranoia grew into auditory and visual hallucinations and I was admitted into the hospital. I have tried it twice and the same thing happened both times. The other med that has done that to me is Topomax.
Many people have a lot of success with Wellbutrin. I guess it just wasn't for me. Hopefully it will be the med for you. It will be a little stimulating at first but other than that the side effects are usually minimal.
Good luck,
Maxime
