I've been drug-free for about 2 1/2 months now. I'm physically feeling the best I have in a long time and pdoc now wants me to try Geodon. My most pronounced symtoms are depression, agoraphobia and social phobia/anxiety with some general anxiety. No pyschosis but definite negative thoughts.
So I'm asking Geodon users to please post their experiences.
I've gained weight (which is an extremely major personal issue.) I think it would be safe to say that recent weight gain has been a large contibution to my depression. I used to be very fit. 5'9" - 150 - ~6-9% body fat. I prided myself in exercising (weight training and cardiovascular training) six days a week and eating a very well-balanced diet.
My appetite and metabolism I believe have finally returned to normal but I still feel like me in someone elses body. I tried exercising but persistant negative thoughts make it extremely difficult. My anxiety/worrying alone is exhausting leaving little energy or motivation for a workout session.
I guess I just want to know how some fo you with similar feelings (major depression & anxiety) have done with Geodon? Please include the following:
Dosage.
Other drugs on while on Geodon.
How long you used Geodon and if not using any more, why?
Have you found it to change your appetite?
Do you think it's done anything other than effecting appetite to contribute to a change in body weight or average metabolic rate?
Do you find it activating? If not do you feel it causes fatigue?
Any gastrointestinal issues? Constipation or diarehhia?
Last, but not least - Has it helped you and How?
I know that seems like a huge request but it would really help me. Thanks in advance.

I took Geodon for several months mainly for its anti-depressant qualities. I found it too be an excellent anti-depressant (the best I have ever taken). It also was excellent for anxiety. Unfortuneately, I had to stop taking it because it caused me to gain a lot of weight.
My experience with the weight issue may be atypical cuz the literature claims it is weight neutral. If you start taking it you will quickly know if it will cause you to gain weight. In my case I gained 5 pounds the first week and kept on gaining (a total of 30 pounds) as long as I took it. It took me almost a year to lose the weight I gained while taking Geodon.
My advice would be to take it BUT watch your weight closely. If you gain weight the first week stop taking it, cause it won't get any better.

I think I might pass on the Geodon. EPS really worries me. I see case after case of dystonia related to APs (even the atypicals). That along with related fatigue counts it out.
I'm going to give a effort to combat depression drug free.
Thanks for your reply!
