with ocd, is the brain getting too much serotonin or not enough? what releases the serotonin? i've read this somewhere before but i can't find the info now.

It's thought that OCD is associated with a lack of serotonin transmission in the brain. The SSRIs, which block reuptake of the serotonin back into the neuron, can help increase the firing rate of the serotonin neurons, which can have a beneficial effect on OCD and other related disorders. Many of these disorders that SSRIs can help treat, such as OCD, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and SAD (Social Anxiety Disorder), are fundamentally anxiety related in their nature.Todd
