Hi Lexman,
The elimination half-life of klonopin is around 30 hours, but I think what you need to know is how long it may give you the anxiolysis effect. After oral administration klonopin starts to work within two hours and the prime effect will last upto eight hours. Then there will be residues such as sedation to follow another eight or more hours. For anxiety, it is usually necessary to take it twice daily.
If you take 0.5mg once daily, probably you can get rid of it without any problems. But why should you be on it on such a low dose level? I think you are keeping yourself on it without having any benefits. If it is for anxiety, you will have to split the tablet and take it twice daily as 0.25mg in the morning and another in the evening. But taking such a low amount once in a day signifies habituation.(Sorry this is not an offence) As a veteran of klonopin, I can advise you to try and cut your dose to half and stay on it for a few days to leave it forever. Remember 0.5mg is a low dose habit and thusly easy to quit.
PLS

Pluto,
I too will be starting Klonopin for GAD, and I want to make sure I take it so it covers the whole day (morning-afternoon-evening-night) with no breakthrough anxiety.
As you say you are a veteran of Klonopin and that it should be taken twice a day to get the full day's anxiolysis effect, at what times would it be best to take it so as to cover the whole day?
6AM and 6PM?
6AM and BEDTIME (11PM)?
6AM and 3PM?
6AM and 12noon?

Hi Chess,
6AM and 6PM will be okay. 1/4 in the morning and 3/4 in the evening. Or you can divide it equally and take it if there is no problem with the drowsiness. If the daytime dose is well adjusted, you will feel better clarity in thinking and a paradoxical alertness (Not in a bad way). But if the dose is too high, you will become drowsy and heavily sedated. So listen to your body and adjust the dosage.
Best of luck

I find that 1 mg in the AM lasts about 12 hours (through the most stressful part of the day) and I'm sure there are residual effects that continue through the evening, given its long half-life. I tried taking it before bed, but found that I became a bit anxious by the middle of the next day. Divided doses may be best for some -- I did this initially, but quickly switched to once a day. We all react differently, though -- you have to try different strategies and figure out which works best for you.
