My 15 yr old son has a psychosis problem which we all have been dealing with for the past 2 months.
The first meds he was on were 5 mg Lexapro and 5 mg Abilify. He spent 2 weeks virtually without sleep and with terrible tremors till he secretly started cheating on his meds.
Since this is our first experience we were unsure about a course of action. We got him in with Psy Dr. and he put him on 10 mg. Zyprexa 3 weeks later we returned as scheduled and my son explained the panic attacks he was having. Dr. added Klonapin to the meds. These seemed to have a beneficial effect after the 1st day. After refusing solid food for 2 days he is back on Burgers & fries, Salad and Tuna.
I would caution those who might mix Abilify and Lexapro. While my son was on this combo the consequences became more and more nightmarish. Whether it was either one or both I can't say but lookout!

I took 15-mg of Abilify for 2 weeks. Very nightmarish, I didn't sleep, 2-5 hours at a time and I never felt rested. Eventualy I went back to the Zyprexa I was on befor, that was causing weight gain, and felt better. I've lost all the weight and still take the Zyprexa (10-mg). Does the Zyprexa work for him or does it give anxiety? I had a lot of panic attacks on Abilify and for a few weeks after I had stoped taking it. It may have been slightly worse after, but went all away. I've never takin Lexapro but would be willing to bet the Abilify was the bad one. A lot of people have that problem from Abilify.

Hey---Scary story here--our 15 year old son has been on Lexapro [first 10 mg] now 20 mg for about 4 months...MONDAY [October 20] appointment with the Psychiatrist...Doc says he shows schizo traits and puts him on Abilify 15mg...by today, Friday, he's having restlessness + sleepiness + neck and face tremors!!!!!!! Think this is NOT right and think its outlandish.
Any comments???????????
Postscript: Our son was depressed and being rebellious-I think [his dad] that its mainly 50% teen angst--just don't know about a Psychiatrist taking him in for 30 minutes and determining he's schizo--we are scared parents [there is a history of depression in my family]BTW I was doing a websearch and came across this post of Daniel J. on Psycho-Babble from August 28---I'll also post this in the newer area

Abilify has not been FDA approved for Depression, Bi-polar, ADD, ADHD, or Aspergers. My best friend tried it over a period of 6 months. She couln't concentrate and could hardly function...so uppety. My brother tried it for 2 months and subsequently took his life last August 2003. Please consider the background of Pharmaceutical companies, such as the Abilify drug maker. Please be careful for the sake of your loved ones. I believe my brother would have survived DEPRESSION, he just didn't survive ABILIFY.
