Lipitor and sleep

Posted by Steeler Tookahn on May 21, 2004, at 21:52:12

I started taking Lipitor several weeks ago and have started sleeping 11 hours a night with a nap during the day. Has anyone else had this reaction to Lipitor.

The reason I ask is that the GP is going to blame one of the Psych meds and I don't want to mess around with the current med regimen which has kept me depression-free for a year and a half.

Thanks

Hi,

Is your cholestrol very bad? Is your HDL & LDL out of balance? My personal opinion of Lipitor & it's cousins is very low, I would be inclined not to take them unless your family has a history of heart & vascular problems.

Also, what psych drugs are you taking?

Cheers,
Panda.

Panda,

My cholesterol is 270. The bad cholesterol (I forget which is which) IS out of whack. My Cho. used to be 550! It went down because of fish oils and getting off Zyprexa -not Lipitor.

What DON'T I take?
Parnate 100MG
Lamictal 400 mg
Synthroid
Cytomel
Abilify
Omega Brite fish oils

I think it is mostly the Parnate and Abilify that are doing the trick.

I am willing to live with my Cholesterol level since I don't want to take another pill and since, no matter what my doctor may think, I'm sure Lipitor has side effects. I've even heard anecdotal information about it causing depression.

So you are saying Zyprexa jacked up your cholesterol & it came down again when you ditched it? It wouldn't surprise me at all, it's been implicated with causing hypergylcemia & diabetes too, so much that FDA made them add warnings. Some of the other atypicals carry the same warning too.

That list isn't too long yet. :) Can I assume you are bipolar?

Cheers,
Panda.

Bipolar it is. Although I've had every diagnosis in existence (some probably no longer in existence) but this new doc worked on the bipolar paradigm and has done a very good job.
