Will Prozac nullify Soma's effects? URGENT!

Posted by Ame Sans Vie on May 14, 2004, at 7:06:16

I'm getting my Soma Rx filled within the next three hours or so (i.e. by 10:00AM CST), but I'm a bit skeptical. I know what a powerful inhibitory effect fluoxetine/norfluoxetine exerts upon CYP450 (especially IIC9, IIC19, IID6 & IIIA), and I also realize that carisoprodol is a prodrug for meprobamate; that is, it relies on CYP450 (IIC19 to be precise) to be converted to the much more active form of the drug, much in the same manner that codeine/hydrocodone/oxycodone relies upon IID6 to become morphine/hydromorphone/oxymorphone.

I know there's no way to know for sure on a person by person basis, but does anyone have any experience (firsthand or otherwise) that could suggest whether the carisoprodol will be completely ineffective?... or perhaps just subdued?

Does anyone know of any IIC19 *inducers* (other than phenobarbital, carbamazepine, rifampin, etc.) that may be found in certain foodstuffs, supplements, herbs, OTC medications...? I'll tell you what -- I've been renovating the house lately (painting primarily... sort of a conscious effort to affirm this house belongs to me and my family and that sea-cow step-sister of mine will be laughed out of court for contesting the Will). I could really use a bit of pain relief, and I know quite well from past experience with FMS that nothing beats Soma, for me, when it comes to neck, shoulder, and upper back stiffness. I have to try to avoid OTC analgesics wherever possible, lest a very unattractive rash pop up on my arms and face (this holds true for APAP, ASA & NSAID's). Heating pads just don't do the trick, and if the Soma isn't going to work I suppose I'll have to settle for something far inferior... one of those sorry excuses for meds that include Flexeril, Zanaflex, Norflex, Skelaxin and Robaxin. Baclofen beats all, actually, but I could see myself becoming *very* easily addicted to the stuff; it's practically identical to a moderate GHB high all day and all night long when combined with the amphetamines I take. Anyhoo, guess I'll stop rambling -- any help will very truly be appreciated!
